Obituary

Thomas L. Troseth, a loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully on January 14, 2020, at home with family at his side.

Tom was born in Carrington, ND on January 12, 1936, to Ralph and Bernice (Elton) Troseth. Tom was raised in Jamestown, ND and after graduating from Jamestown High School (1954) he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. Upon return from the Army, he met the love of his life, Viona (Vi) Gunst. They were married in June of 1959 and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Tom attended and graduated from Jamestown College in 1961 with a bachelor degree in history and physical education.

After a brief career as a high school teacher and coach in New Leipzig, ND, Tom joined McGraw Hill as a professional salesman that took his family to Bismarck, ND, Sioux Falls, SD and Grand Rapids, MI. After 35 years with McGraw Hill, Tom retired in 1997.

Tom was known for his good nature and signature laugh. He loved competitive sports and a meaningful poem. He enjoyed being with family and friends, telling a good joke and winning at pinochle.

Tom is survived by his loving wife Vi of 60 years; five children: Michelle (Kevin) Moore, Lisa (George) Kopanakis, Steven Troseth, Timothy (Patricia) Troseth and David (Kari) Troseth, twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Tom is also survived by two brothers, Marvin and Michael. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Kenneth (Kenny). The family would like to thank Faith Hospice and members of Grandville United Methodist Church for their care and compassion during Tom’s illness.

There will be a time of visitation from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 6:00pm-8:00pm on Friday, January 24, 2020, at Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo Avenue SE, Kentwood, Michigan 49508. The funeral service for Tom will be celebrated at 11:00am on Saturday, January 25, 2020, at Grandville United Methodist Church, 3140 Wilson Avenue SW, Grandville, MI 49418. Pastor Ryan Wieland will be presiding. A lunch reception will follow the celebration service in the Fellowship Hall of the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Faith Hospice or the American Cancer Society. The family welcomes memories and messages in their guest book online at www.ofieldfuneralhome.com

Although I only knew Tom for a few short years, I consider him a great friend. He was so very kind and easy to talk to. Very nice to be and my boys and always at the ready with a kind word. I know that he is now in the arms of our Lord and without any pain. Rest In Peace my friend.
