Church, Mary "Bette" 4/12/1921 - 7/8/2019 Wyoming MI Mary "Bette" Church (nee Hartwell) went to be with her Lord and Savior July 8, 2019, at Ely Manor, in Allegan, MI. She was 98. She had received good and loving care during her stay there. Bette was born on April 12, 1921, in Boise, ID to Bert and Esther Hartwell. She graduated from New Trier High School and attended Northwestern University as music major. A dedicated and gifted musician, Bette won national honors in piano competitions and was one of the youngest participants ever to be invited to perform with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. She continued to bless us all with her wonderful talent throughout her life. Bette was very active in her Christian Life, both on the North Shore in Illinois, and later in Grand Rapids. She participated and led many groups including Navigators, and many Bible Study groups. She was always there, available to help people in need and willingly gave of herself to others. She was also deeply involved in politics and government. She helped lead and mentor people in these areas and wrote articles on the importance of our Constitution. These were used in the Michigan Republican party, to help educate people on the function and make up of our national government. She is survived by her sons, David (Karen) and John (Sue), and 3 adopted siblings, Deborah, Austin, and Sara; 4 grandchildren Christopher (Jill), David M (Malsoon), Michael and Stephanie, and 10 great grandchildren.
