Obituary

Born April 27th 1950 in Zoeterwoude, Netherlands, was surrounded by family as she journeyed peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the morning of December 16th 2019.

She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Clazina Vanderstoel, her late husband Douglas “Flash” Menninga, Her sister Trudy Eckart, her brother in-law Jerry Eckart and brother in law Johnny Sieperda, and sister in law Lorrie Menninga.

She is survived by her husband Donald Richards and the entire Richards Family, her three loving daughters: Alicia Archer (Tom), Andrea Menninga (Robert Evrist), Deanna Menninga, her brothers Gerrit Vanderstoel (Karol), Jake Vanderstoel (Joellen Bekendam), her sisters: Annie Sieperda, Clarina Joling (Dennis), her late husband’s parents Clarence and Irene Menninga, and the entire Menninga and Vanderstoel families, including many beloved nieces and nephews, and deeply cherished friends.

Alice was an active member at Oakdale Park Christian Reformed Church, and loved praising God with her voice on the praise team as well as many other areas of service. She was passionate about all the communities and organizations that she served and was especially proud to call Eastown her Home. She had a passion for others and made strangers feel like family. Her strong faith in the Lord and love for His word and His people naturally poured out everywhere she went. We are grateful for her spunk, style, love, kindness, sense of humor, and her ability to light up a room as she found JOY in all circumstances. She will be deeply missed!

There will be a private gathering at Graceland Memorial Park and Mausoleum on the morning of Monday December 30th 2019.
A visitation for family and friends will also be held on Monday December 30th 2019:10am-12pm at Oakdale Park Christian Reformed Church.
The visitation will be directly followed by a Celebration of Life service at 12pm.

I always enjoyed talking to Alice when I would pass by the house while walking our dogs. She always had a smile and a warmth that was one of a kind. I served with her at the Eastown Community Association when I first moved into the neighborhood 15 years ago. She welcomed me and made me realize that Eastown is a special place. My wife and I will miss her.
