Obituary

David Michael Lewis, Age 91, of Kalamazoo passed away on May 17, 2020 at the Directors Hall assisted living facility in Kalamazoo, MI. David was born January 26, 1929 in Cleveland, OH. He graduated from high school at 16 and attended the University of Maryland for two years before joining the US Army. He served in the Army and Reserves between 1947 and 1952. While stationed in Japan he developed an interest in Japanese society. After graduating from University of Maryland, he continued his education at Michigan State University, receiving a Ph.D. in Sociology in 1963. He taught sociology at Western Michigan University from 1962 to 1990, retiring as full professor. He is survived by his sons David Lewis of South Bend, IN and William Lewis of Schoolcraft, MI. He will be interred at Fort Custer National Cemetery. At his request, no services will be held. Donations in memory of David may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
