Betty Stam DeWaard, reached the age 90 in April of 2019 and was welcomed into the full presence of her faithful Savior, Jesus Christ, in June, 2019.

She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, John, her brother, Ed Stam and her son-in-law, Charles Harmon.

She is survived by her children: Paul (Mary) DeWaard, Susan (Craig) Bruggink, Donna Harmon, James (Mary) DeWaard; her grand children: Leighann (Thomas) Odenbaugh, Kaitlyn (Ian) Jones, Alyssa ( Jay) Lukiewski, Jeffrey Bruggink, David Bruggink, Andrew Harmon, Katie Harmon, Erika DeWaard, J.D. DeWaard, Emily DeWaard: great grandchildren; Jonathan, David, Rosie, Amy, Samuel and one on the way. Extended family includes: Carol (Carl) Flint, Mary Alice Stam, Elsie Greydanus and Mary (Jerry) Miller.

Betty was born and raised in Rochester, NY. She attended 3 years of Nursing School at Rochester General Hospital attaining her RN degree. Betty raised their four children as she and John moved to several locations in NY, and MI all the while putting her nursing skills to use in hospitals, Dr's offices and bandaging up the neighborhood kids. She had the ability to make ordinary events seem special, loved board games, arts and crafts, making her famous peanut butter marshmallow clusters, called her grandchildren's ideas ""genius"" even when they weren't, built endless sand castles at the cottage on Lake Michigan and leaves us all wondering what she loved more, a good deal or a good dessert. We all knew we were deeply loved and extraordinarily special to her, as she was to us.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 8, 2019 at 10:00 AM with a fellowship time to follow at the Breton Terrace Centre Place Room located at Breton Woods, 2500 Breton Woods Dr. SE. Our family will miss Betty (especially the times that we could sit by her in church), but we are so happy that she is now in heaven, praising her Savior Jesus Christ.
